Bluffton Soccer Complex

Bluffton Soccer Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that has been in our community since the early 80’s and currently has over 220 children registered. This new Complex will serve U8-U12 recreational and travel teams. As some of us know, soccer is one of the first sports offered at such a young age in our community. This helps children in so many ways developmentally through building motor skills, socializing, working as a team and learning to respect a coach.

Our current fields are in 3 different locations around the community (U8 at Ebenezer Church, U10 at Beaverdam Park, U12 at Village Park). We are SO excited to bring all those ages to one location to make it easier not only for parents dropping off multiple children in the program, but also for refs and others from outside Bluffton making it easier to locate one address for games. This will also bring more revenue to our community during both Fall and Spring seasons. During the Spring Season, we will be able to host the U12 Tournament at this location as well bringing 12 other teams in our league to our community.

The Complex is 10 acres on Snyder Road and across the road from the Bluffton YMCA. When all completed, the Complex will have 7 new soccer fields, a 1 mile walking/biking path, shelter house, concessions, bathrooms, and a playground. This area will be open to the community to enjoy and will offer more area for parking during events and more green space for all to enjoy.

The estimated time to start digging is end of September! This is a very large project estimated at $1.5 million and will have 3 Phases. We are also looking to expand in the future adding U15 fields to our Complex and possibly pickleball/futsol courts.

FAQs

How did the complex come about?

The Village of Bluffton received feedback from the community in a survey that there was a need for more green space. At the same time, the Bluffton Soccer Club had been searching for a place to bring all the youth soccer age groups to one location. This was a perfect match! The first 5 acres of land was generously donated to the Village by Sumi Riko of Ohio with the expectation it would be used for youth soccer. To help the Soccer Club reach their goal of having all soccer in one location, the Village purchased an additional 5 acres adjacent to the Sumi Riko land donation.

Who is the complex for?

The complex will be a public park for everyone in the community to enjoy. There will be a shelter house with restrooms, a playground, and a 1-mile-long walkway/bike path. Each fall and spring, the complex will be the home field location for both recreational and travel Bluffton soccer teams U8-U12.

Why do we need a soccer complex?

Currently ages U8 – U12 play at 3 different locations: Ebenezer Church, Beaverdam Park, and the Village Park. Parents, players, fans and referees must travel between the 3 sites multiple times a week. By having 1 location for these young age groups, it will cut down travel time, young referees will be able to work multiple games in one location, and it will bring more foot traffic to local businesses in Bluffton.

How many players are in the age group?

Fall 2024 had 222 players registered between both recreational and travel soccer teams. Each Spring, the Bluffton Soccer Club hosts a U12/U15 tournament for the Black Swamp Soccer League. Over the 3-day tournament, an average of 26 teams (300+ players) from the surrounding area come to Bluffton to compete.

When will the complex be finished?

This will be a multi-phase/multi-year project. Phase 1 will break ground in September 2024. With hopeful cooperation from the weather, we are looking to be playing on the complex fields by Fall of 2025.

What will happen to the current soccer fields?

The Village has decided to keep its fields at the Village Park for soccer use. Currently U15 only has 1 field located in Bluffton. By keeping the land at the Village Park for U15, this will allow all our teams to have a field to play on in town. The fields at Beaverdam Park and Ebenezer Church will be no longer used.

Who will maintain the complex once completed?

Once the grass is growing and able to be played on, the Village will mow and maintain the grounds. The Soccer Club will line all fields and maintain goals, nets, and flags.
